For solo founders
Most founders are working on the wrong problem. Not because they're bad at business. Because every business has a stage. Each stage has one constraint. Fixing anything else does nothing.

"Those who look at their own company solely from the inside only see the inside of the bubble."
You hired someone to fix sales.
Sales didn't move.
You redesigned the website.
Same traffic. Same results.
You added a new service.
Same revenue. New headaches.
You raised prices. Lost clients.
You lowered them back down.
You pivoted. New direction. Same ceiling, new walls.
None of these are bad ideas. Every one of them works at the right stage. The problem isn't the action. The problem is applying a Stage 4 fix to a Stage 2 problem. Until you know your stage, every fix is a guess.
How This Works
Every business moves through the same six stages, in order. Each stage has exactly one constraint holding it there. Fix anything else first and nothing moves — not because you're not capable, but because that stage isn't finished yet.
Six stages. Six constraints. One diagnostic that tells you exactly where you are. The founders who break through fastest aren't working harder. They're working on the one constraint that's actually theirs, and nothing else.
We name each stage after a space mission milestone — Foundations, Signal, Handoff, Momentum, Independence, and the final stage we call Authority — because each name captures exactly what that kind of stuck feels like. The founders who reach Authority have one thing in common: they always knew which stage they were in.
Each phase has a name, a mission analogy, and a single constraint. The constraint is what keeps you there. Remove it and the next phase begins automatically.
Phase 01 / 06
Pre-mission: Is the payload right?
Wrong assumption before launchBefore a mission launches, the crew confirms the payload is correct. You haven't done that yet. The thing you built is based on an assumption you haven't tested. Everything on top of it is fragile. No marketing, no sales hire, no website redesign fixes a product that isn't confirmed to solve a paid problem.
Signs you're here: "Interesting but not for me" • Clients take forever to close • You've changed the offer 3+ times in 12 months
Phase 02 / 06
Engine phase: Can you generate consistent thrust?
No repeatable acquisition channelThe engine fires once and you celebrate. Then it goes quiet. Then it fires again, but you don't know why. A mission that can't generate consistent thrust can't reach orbit. Adding more services or raising prices does not fix an engine problem. You need one channel that fires predictably.
Signs you're here: Pipeline is feast or famine, never steady • Can't name one channel that generated 3+ clients the same way • Referrals come but you can't predict when
Phase 03 / 06
Breaking atmosphere: Fighting founder gravity
Founder is the bottleneckThis is the hardest phase. Breaking through atmosphere takes more energy than any other moment in the mission. Every decision, every client, every problem routes through you. Revenue grows but so do your hours. The ship cannot accelerate past what one person can physically carry. Hiring more crew before removing founder gravity makes this worse.
Signs you're here: Revenue plateaus at exactly your capacity limit • You can't take two weeks off • Team needs you to do their job well
Phase 04 / 06
Stable orbit: Up, but not going anywhere new
Growth lever not identifiedYou escaped the atmosphere. The ship runs without you. Momentum is real. But orbit without acceleration is just circling. You've tried new initiatives. Nothing compounds. One specific lever is missing. Every orbit has it. It could be deal size, positioning, churn rate, or conversion on one specific step. Until that lever is identified, the ship stays in the same orbit.
Signs you're here: Revenue flat 6+ months despite active effort • Every new initiative produces less than the last • Team is performing but the number isn't moving
Phase 05 / 06
Deep space: The ship stopped accelerating
Org design has stopped scalingIn deep space there's no air resistance, no friction. A ship should accelerate continuously. But if the navigation system still requires the founder at every node, the ship's velocity is limited by one person's processing speed. You have people, process, and revenue but the org is structured around founder gravity rather than autonomous propulsion. The fix is structural, not personal.
Signs you're here: Teams can't make decisions without you • Good people are leaving • Projects take twice as long as they should
Phase 06 / 06
Destination: Arriving at a new galaxy
Category competitionYou arrived. The mission runs. The problem now is who owns this galaxy. You're winning deals but newer competitors with cleaner stories are also arriving. The frontier is getting crowded. Category ownership is the difference between being the discoverer and being one of many settlers. The mission here is different. This is a language game, not a performance game.
Signs you're here: Price pressure from below • Buyers can't explain why they chose you • Competitors who are objectively worse are winning deals
